Disintigration of the Persistance of Photographs

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

This picture, in this condition, was staring at me from the bottom of a crate I recently unpacked. Circa 1974, it shows two very charming children with their father on his tractor. I might recall rideing on the mower, trying to grab at laundry drying on the line, but mostly, I remember the photographs, and what they recorded.
This one begs the question: What happens when the picture starts forgetting?

8*1*8 (new contest!)

8-1-8 web.jpg

Ingredients: Sugar, enriched bleached flour*, high fructose corn syrup, water, partially hydrogenated vegetable oil, corn syrup, eggs.

8-1-8 side web.jpg

This is the next “food” product in the series. 8*1*8 has an enormous amount of sugar (the very first ingredient on the box), and is far more moist than Patty, the Eterniburger. I am not sure what will happen, so stay tuned. I am a little afraid of ants.

Naturally, I am having another contest to name this cream filled golden sponge cake. Please submit your entries via comments. I will decide on Sunday night, the winner will receive two Wacky Packages, one with gum, the other with stickers.

Don’t delay! Enter today!

(spouses, relatives, employees, and previous winners may enter)

I am also taking suggestions for other products you would like to see in this project. Any suggestions I use will be rewarded with Wacky Packages. YAY!

*enriched bleached flour means they took all of the good stuff out of the flour when they processed and bleached it, then went and added a whole bunch of nutritional stuff to try to make it good for you again.

Newer!

Dang! This is a bit too small. Written on the plate is a list of food additives, on the back is a hand worked piece of vintage linen.

Here are a few more plates. I am trying to explore the relationship of uber-processed, uber-packaged foods with the act of eating.

I like looking at this. 5″ x 5″ acrylic. It is from an actual product. Can you guess what it is? (winner gets a prize)

In my exploration of logos, and trying to learn more about them, I am drawing a few out every day. I started on large 9×12 inch sheets. That size is a bit unwieldy, I switched to 4×6 index cards. These below are in colored pencil, with some selections from Karin’s kitchen.

OMG–not-stitched art work

Monday, July 7th, 2008

I am so sure this has been done before, but I was stuck. I was stuck between an idea and some puffy paint and didn’t know how to find my way out. This seemed like a good starting place. Subtle is very new to me.

What do you think?

Please don’t tell my dad I defaced my college diploma…

It’s not really a new direction, but it’s way better than felt and puffy paint…

Still! Always! Free! (not done) Gravy.

Monday, June 30th, 2008

sigh,

i will finish this soon.

I couldn’t get through these thousands of French Knots without audio entertainment from Ira Glass and his story crafters.

My goal is to stitch for 90 minutes each day.

FYI: this i sabout 13 inches wide by 9 inches high.
