The Iridescent Extraordinary is a daily practice.
Every night after I’ve jumped in bed and just before I drift off to sleep, I make a quick drawing of my favorite part of the day. I aim to do it even if I’m crazy tired or slightly drunk. Many drawings are done laying on my side with my drawing arm buried in the pillows or under blankets. These guys have their own instagram. In January 2021, I hit 500 posts!
“As in any other year, life zigged and zagged according to the adventures my friend Serendipity laid at my feet. Like any other year I gathered the fleeting and magnificent experiences in my arms and accepted the small thrills and dangers excitedly, or calmly, for they formed an inseparable part of the iridescent extraordinary.”
Iva Pekárková
The title of the project comes from this amazing quote by Iva Pekárková in her book Truck Stop Rainbows. I read the book sometime back in the mid 90’s, scribbled the lines in a notebook and a few years ago, the words popped out to greet meet. Once again, I was struck by how perfecty they sum up the journey that is life. Those words: iridescent and extraordinary perfectly desciribe the millions of pearl and gemstone moments that we string together to form into our lives.
